This Month's Review: Schoolhouse Teachers Website
This month I’m excited to bring you another review of a super website created by the Old Schoolhouse Magazine (www.TheHomeschoolMagazine.com). This site has the potential to provide lots of online resources for families homeschooling overseas. The site is called Schoolhouse Teachers and is found at www.SchoolhouseTeachers.com.

Schoolhouse Teachers is just oozing with worksheets, lesson plans, lap books, and even classes! Many of the resources are by homeschool experts and can be used in every subject you are studying with all your pre-K through High School students. I found their site had easy to use pull down menus and was well organized to be able to find something to enhance every child's learning.
Schoolhouse Teachers is a subscription based website. The cost is one dollar for the first month and $5.95 a month after that with a variety of added bonuses too. My impression is that this is an excellent value for all that the site has to offer. There are new lessons added every day and month, plus every month's material is archived and accessible.
One of my favorite sections on the site is called “Dailies,” which features a NEW lesson every day. The lessons are in categories like, “This day in history”, “Simply Shakespeare”, “Pre-K activities” “everyday explorers”, “everyday games” and more. I had my 1st and 4th grader try out the “Daily Games” found in the pull down menu of “Dailies.” I printed out the math games and my 4th grader read and prepared the games with ease. They enjoyed the challenge and the even though their school day was over it was hard to pull them away from the games. I also helped my pre-K early reader with some of the reading “daily games.” She especially liked the cat game and could also play the games easily. She enjoyed how colorful it was. I sat and played with her and it helped me feel like I easily slipped in some school with her that felt more like playing together.
The most exciting part of the site for me was the guitar lessons! I have been wanting my 8th grader to learn the guitar but have not had a chance to get him started. My son checked it out; unfortunately, the video did not work well the first day. But the next day and ever since it has worked great (our internet connection speed can vary day to day). He immediately learned to play two cords and followed along with the video. I was thrilled that he took interest in the program - maybe it will inspire a guitar career in the near future!

The Schoolhouse Teacher site has exciting classes as well, like a mock trial, logic, and media socialization for my middle schooler. I can see adding a class to his school work. For my 1st and 4th grader I really am looking forward to using the figures in history printables. They have enjoyed this product in the past and I love the extra features that are included on the site. I also like the daily handwriting worksheet; we just finished our cursive writing program and I can access daily pages now from the site for them to use. For my pre-K student, the games are definitely her favorite so I will be checking often to see what games I can quickly give her so she feels included in the school day.
Overall, I feel like the Schoolhouse Teacher website has tons of potential for families homeschooling overseas. Living overseas, I can often feel like I'm not able to easily access enrichments to our homeschooling day. We can’t run to the bookstore when our child needs a little more help with fractions, or writing, or when we want to beef up our history lesson or science lesson. Schoolhouse Teachers provides all of this and more at our fingertips. If you are the type of homeschooling family that is looking for these types of resources check out this site and see what you think. If you're like me, though, it can be type of site that can seem exciting at first and then you can forget that you signed up for it and end up not using it as much as you might have wanted. But if you go to it each week or month with your lesson plans in front of you I think you can get your money's worth very quickly. A Schoolhouse Teachers subscription can help provide resources that are ready made and super fun, and maybe even what you have been wishing for while you are homeschooling overseas.
